Sen. Marsha Blackburn
In 2018, Tennessee elected Marsha Blackburn as the first woman to represent the Volunteer State in the United States Senate. As the state’s senior senator, she serves on several key committees, including the Commerce, Science & Transportation Committee and the Judiciary Committee, where she has been a leading advocate for advancing artificial intelligence (AI) policy.
Blackburn has focused on ensuring that AI innovation benefits industries critical to Tennessee’s economy, such as healthcare, manufacturing, and finance, while addressing ethical and security concerns surrounding emerging technologies.
Blackburn has co-sponsored significant legislation to shape the future of AI. She introduced the Future of AI Innovation Act, which promotes AI safety, research, and public-private collaboration to maintain U.S. leadership in AI development. She also co-sponsored the NO FAKES Act, designed to protect individuals from unauthorized AI-generated replicas of their voices or likenesses, and supported efforts to combat harmful deepfakes through transparency requirements for AI-generated content.
Senator Blackburn emphasizes the importance of these technologies for national security, research, and private sector applications, advocating for policies that foster innovation while safeguarding American interests in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.
